Closed meetings

There are some situations where committee discussions might take place in a closed meeting. This means that by law, the public cannot attend.

Why we close a meeting to the public

A closed meeting will happen when the item for discussion:

  • discloses information about an individual's personal, financial or business affairs
  • discloses information about an individual's negotiations for land, goods, services or labour relations
  • relates to legal proceedings
  • is rendered confidential under any Act or Court Order
  • is forbidden from publication

If this happens, we will tell you the reason why and the Council will produce a summary of the decision at the closed meeting.
