We work with the emergency services and partner responding agencies to:
- identify risks and plan how we can mitigate or control their impact
- prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies
- maintain and update emergency plans
- validate the plans to make sure they work
- warn, inform and advise people about emergencies
- work with other organisations and promote business continuity management
The partners we work with make up the Borough Resilience Forum. They include:

- the military
- NHS and healthcare trust services
- faith and community groups
- voluntary organisations
- charities and support services
- government and public bodies
- transport and infrastructure organisations
- adult educational institutions
- business and industry groups
- utility companies
- entertainment businesses
- housing trusts
Our role in an emergency
Most emergencies are unpredictable, but planning helps us to make sure we can:
- be effective, flexible and timely in how we respond
- help people stay safe and reduce distress
- keep essential services running
- tell people what’s happening and what actions they can take
- lead the recovery after the emergency is over
