NextGen Greenwich

NextGen Greenwich is the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s new service for 5 to 25 year olds in Greenwich.

Built on extensive research and consultation with children, young people, families and our wider community, NextGen Greenwich will enable children and young people realise their ambitions, while also supporting and growing our valued Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector.

The programme includes three strands: NextGen Youth, NextGen School Aged Health and Wellbeing Service (SHAW) and NextGen Grants.

All 3 elements centre youth voice and choice, ensuring that services are built on the needs and priorities of our children and young people. Work is currently underway to prepare for delivery.

Grant opportunities will be open for application in Autumn 2026 and all NextGen Greenwich services will be going live in April 2027.

NextGen Youth

NextGen Youth will offer universal and targeted youth provision, designed to support children and young people to thrive, build positive futures, and achieve their goals.

Delivered through Community Youth Hubs and activities designed by and for young people, the service will provide welcoming spaces where young people can develop skills, confidence, resilience, and meaningful relationships.

Working closely with schools, community organisations and the wider NextGen Greenwich partnership, the service will ensure support is inclusive, responsive and reflects the diverse needs of Greenwich’s children, young people and families.

NextGen Youth is about prevention and early help, ensuring young people can access trusted support before challenges escalate, while promoting health, wellbeing, safety and aspiration.

Next Gen SHAW

NextGen SHaW will provide a School-Aged Health and Wellbeing service, designed to improve the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of children and young people through a preventative, population health approach.

Working in partnership with schools, families, communities, and community organisations, the service aims to reduce inequalities, improve outcomes and ensure children and young people can access timely support that enables them to stay healthy, safe and engaged in education.

The service will deliver statutory functions such as the National Child Measurement Programme, screening and safeguarding support, while also helping schools identify and respond to local health needs by offering a menu of evidence-based interventions and support that can be adapted to local priorities.

Alongside universal provision, the service will provide targeted support for children and young people with additional or emerging needs, helping to build resilience, promote healthy choices and prevent issues from escalating.

Through strong partnership working and meaningful engagement with young people and families, NextGen SHaW will create a more responsive and accessible health and wellbeing offer across Greenwich.

NextGen Greenwich grants

NextGen grants will fund activities for 5 to 18 year olds (up to 25 with SEND) with priorities that are shaped by our children and young people.
