Help from the Youth Justice Service
We help children who get into trouble with the law, or who are at risk of getting involved in crime. Our services are for children aged 10 to 18.
We’re a team of multi-agency professionals who work together to reduce crime. The team is made up of:
- social workers
- probation officers
- police officers
- education workers
- health workers
- referral order co-ordinator
- parenting co-ordinator
- Youth justice workers
- administrative staff
If you’re concerned about a child’s safety or wellbeing, report your concerns about a child.
When and how we help
We get involved when a child:
- gets into trouble with the police or is arrested
- is charged with a crime and has to go to court
- is convicted of a crime and given a sentence
We are responsible for:
- supervising and supporting children who have community orders from Court
- supervising and supporting children in custody
- working with children to divert them from the criminal justice system, through positive activities, building on the child’s strengths and working with the family to support positive changes.
- substance misuse advice and support
- parent support
- addressing any unmet health or educational needs
- working with the youth court
- finding out the views of victims and encouraging their involvement

How to get help
The police or an agency already working with the family contacts us first, and we will then contact you. If you’re worried that your child’s behaviour puts them at risk of crime or anti-social behaviour you can make a referral into the MASH team:
