Gambling licence objectives

We work with licence and permit holders, as well as partner agencies to promote 3 gambling licence objectives. The are to:

  • prevent gambling being used, associated with, or a source of crime and disorder
  • ensure gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
  • protect children and other vulnerable people from harm or exploitation through gambling

Responsibilities

We undertake regulatory functions related to gambling activities.

We’re responsible for issuing:

  • premises licences for the provision of gambling activities
  • permits for unlicensed family entertainment centres
  • permits for club gaming and club machines
  • permits for licensed premises gaming machines
  • permits for prize gaming
  • provisional statements

We’re also responsible for:

  • receiving and endorsing temporary use notices
  • receiving occasional use notices
  • registering small lotteries

Our Statement of Gambling Policy

Our revised Statement of Gambling Policy (Version 7) was issued under the Gambling Act 2005. It was published on 3 January 2025 and came into force on 31 January 2025.
