After you’ve applied
When we receive your completed application, we’ll carry out a letter drop to all residents living within 100 metres of your premises.
If we do not receive any objections within 28 days of receiving your application, we’ll issue you with a certificate.
If we receive objections
Anyone wishing to object must do it within 28 days of us receiving your complete application.
We may receive objections from:
- your neighbours
- any of the responsible authorities, if they feel your application does not address the licensing objectives adequately
If we receive any objections:
- We’ll initially try to mediate between parties.
- If mediation does not work, we’ll pass your case to our Licensing sub-committee who will hold a hearing to determine your application.
- We’ll invite you to attend the hearing to give evidence, answer questions and call any witnesses.
- The sub-committee will listen to evidence from both sides before deciding whether to grant the application.
- The committee may grant the certificate as requested, grant with conditions (provided these are relevant to the licensing objectives), or refuse your application.
How to appeal
If you’re unhappy with the decision of the Licensing sub-committee, you can appeal to the magistrates' court.
You need to do this within 21 days of being notified of our decision.
