If you disagree with your food hygiene rating
After you’ve received your food hygiene rating, you may want to:
- request a re-inspection visit
- submit an appeal
- submit comments about your rating
Re-inspection visits
If your business has improved its hygiene standards and you want a review of your food hygiene rating, you can request a re-inspection visit by completing an online form.
Before you request a re-inspection, we recommend you contact us to discuss whether a re-inspection is the best course of action for your business. Email us at food.concerns@royalgreenwich.gov.uk.
When completing the online form, explain in detail what actions you’ve taken to address the issues raised at your last inspection.
A re-inspection visit:
- costs £417.78 (reviewed annually)
- is unannounced
- will take place within 3 months of receiving your request
As a result of a re-inspection, your rating may go up or down or stay the same. This depends on the conditions found at the time of the visit.
Appeal a food hygiene rating
You can appeal your food hygiene rating if you think it does not reflect the hygiene standards found at the time of your inspection.
You must submit your appeal within 21 days of receiving your rating. This includes weekends and bank holidays.
Submit comments about your rating
You can respond to your food hygiene rating by submitting comments for publication on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website alongside your food hygiene rating.
You might want to submit comments because:
- you've improved hygiene standards since your inspection
- there were unusual circumstances at the time of the inspection
This is known as the 'right to reply'. When you submit a 'right to reply' request, the Food Safety Manager will review and edit your comments before publishing them.
