The Healthier Catering Commitment (HCC)is a London-wide scheme that recognises businesses that demonstrate a commitment to offering healthier food options.
It’s not about selling different food, just making small changes to how you prepare and serve food.
Who can join
Your business can join if:
- you’re not part of a large chain
- you have a food hygiene rating of 3 or above
There’s 4 criteria your business needs to comply with:
- use a polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fat or oil, such as sunflower, corn or rapeseed oil
- let your customers add their own salt to food, do not add salt to cooking water for vegetables, rice or pasta
- offer water and low sugar drinks, and promote them
- offer smaller portions of food for children and adults
If you fry foods, you also need to:
- have cooking oil at 175°C
- drain excess fat from food before serving
- maintain frying oil by skimming during service, topping up and filtering
