Food Hygiene Rating Scheme
We run the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme in partnership with the Food Standards Agency.
The scheme aims to reduce the number of food poisoning cases. Food poisoning affects about 1 million people in the UK every year.
It provides information about hygiene standards in businesses that provide food directly to the public, including:
- restaurants
- cafes
- take-aways
- supermarkets and other food shops
The scheme does not rate businesses that do not provide food directly to the public, such as:
- manufacturers
- wholesalers
- places not usually considered as food business, such as pharmacies
New food businesses may not appear on the list if they’ve not been rated yet.
