Pride in Place programme for Thamesmead Birchmere Park

Apply to be a Neighbourhood Board member

We’re recruiting volunteer Board members for the new Thamesmead Birchmere Park Neighbourhood Board. The main function of the Board is to oversee the area’s Pride in Place programme. 

Purpose of the Role 

Neighbourhood Board Members provide strategic leadership and community representation. They help shape priorities, make decisions on investment, and ensure the Pride in Place programme reflects local needs and aspirations. 

Responsibilities

Board members will: 

  • contribute to the development, approval and delivery of the 10-year Pride in Place Plan 
  • represent community views and bring local knowledge to Board discussions 
  • support community engagement and ensure diverse voices are heard 
  • work collaboratively with other Board members, the Chair, local MP and the Royal Borough of Greenwich 
  • help oversee and support programme priorities, funding decisions and outcomes 
  • champion stronger communities, thriving places and empower the community to take back control 
  • promote transparency, accountability and good governance

We’re looking for people who have: 

  • have a strong connection to Thamesmead Birchmere Park 
  • are committed to improving the area and supporting community-led change 
  • can work constructively with people from different backgrounds 
  • are committed to inclusivity, fairness and respect 
  • can dedicate time to meetings and engagement activities 

As a board member, you’ll be expected to: 

  • follow the Seven Principles of Public Life (the ‘Nolan principles’) 
  • declare and manage conflicts of interest 
  • respect confidentiality as needed 
  • act in the interests of the whole neighbourhood 

Time commitment

You'll need to attend Board meetings and relevant engagement activities.
