UK armed forces accommodation is exempt from Council Tax:

  • if it's owned by the Secretary of State for Defence
  • if it's held for the sole purpose of forces accommodation
  • wherever it's located
  • whether it's occupied or not

Armed forces accommodation includes:

  • barracks
  • other accommodation on military bases
  • married quarters

What you need to apply

You'll need to send us confirmation from the Ministry of Defence. It must show that the property is UK armed forces accommodation.
