Carer’s Allowance
You do not need a carer’s assessment to get Carer’s Allowance.
You may be eligible for Carer’s Allowance if you care for someone for at least 35 hours a week.

Carer’s Credit
If you’re not eligible for Carer’s Allowance, you may be eligible for Carer’s Credit.
You could get Carer’s Credit if you care for someone for at least 20 hours a week.
Other financial support
You may be eligible for:
- a carers council tax discount
- support to help with the cost of living - including benefits, housing, energy bills, food and travel costs, health costs and childcare costs
The person you care for may also be entitled to disability benefits that can help pay for the extra costs of a long-term illness or disability.
They may be entitled to:
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA) - for disabled people under 16
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP) - for people over 16 and under State Pension Age
- Attendance Allowance - for people who are State Pension Age
