Folk singer and human rights campaigner Julie Felix will perform at the Royal Borough of Greenwich's free event to celebrate International Women's Day on 8 March.

The singer-songwriter has worked with the likes of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and is known for her commitment to equality and charitable causes.

International Women's Day is celebrated on 8 March every year to commemorate the movement for women's rights. This year's theme is #PressforProgress in recognition of the need to motivate and unite to promote gender inclusivity.

It's free to attend Royal Greenwich's International Women's Day event but tickets must be booked in advance.

Greenwich 100 Exhibition - Beyond the Suffragettes

The University of Greenwich's Greenwich 100 Exhibition - Beyond the Suffragettes will also be officially launched at the event which is taking place at Woolwich Library from 6pm to 8.30pm.

The exhibition marks the centenary of the 1918 Act that gave all men and some women the right to vote in Parliamentary elections. Curator and senior lecturer Dr Claire Eustance will give a talk and there will also be a drama performance by students.

Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald, Cabinet Member for Culture, Creative Industries and Community Well-Being, said: "The Royal Borough of Greenwich is very proud to support International Women's Day and celebrate the economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

"2018 is a momentous year as it marks 100 years since some women first gained the right to vote so I am pleased that we are putting on such an interesting programme which will include a very special performance by Julie Felix.
