How to keep a skip
You need a licence from the Royal Borough of Greenwich to keep a skip on the roadside. You cannot get the licence yourself - the request has to come from a skip hire company.
The Royal Borough has an approved list of skip companies and you will need to approach one of these companies.
Skip location and size
The skip company will agree with us the safest place to put the skip on the road, bearing in mind your requirements. It is not always possible to site the skip where you want, but we aim to get it as close as possible.
Each skip shall not exceed three metres by two metres in size.
Charges
All skip operators on the Royal Borough's approved list should pay the licence fee at the time of ordering the skip licence.
Any unlicensed skips, and skips which are not conforming to our regulations, will be subject to a fee of £100 per skip and this should be paid by credit or debit card.
Please note - photographic evidence will be used to facilitate our claim, should any legal proceedings occur.
Certain bays are charged for by the day by Parking Services.
We issue skip licences to skip hire operators at a standard rate that is reviewed every April. However, what you pay depends on what the skip hire company charges you.
The licence period
A standard skip licence will normally be valid for 28 days.

In a council estate or communal area
To have a skip on council housing land, you must apply for a licence through your local estate office. The licence covers skips up to six yards in length.
It will be valid for 28 days once issued.
In your front garden or driveway
A skip licence is not required, nor do you have to use one of the skip companies on our list.
