Data protection policy

Greenwich Council needs to collect personal information about people it deals with to carry out its business and provide services. 

This includes customers, employees (present, past and prospective), suppliers and other business contacts.

No matter how it is collected, recorded and used (for example, on a computer or on paper) this personal information must be dealt with properly to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

The policy is the formal statement of intent with regards to the storing and utilisation of personal data held by Greenwich Council.

Your right of access to personal data

Under the Data Protection Act 1998, you are entitled to ask the Council for a copy of all the personal information that we hold about you when we provide services to you.

This information includes a description of the purposes for which we hold the data (for example, if you are a council housing tenant, we will hold data about you in our capacity as landlord). It also includes a description of the recipients to whom the data can be disclosed.

This entitlement is known as the right of access to personal data.

Should you wish to exercise your right in requesting disclosure of your data, please download and complete the request form, providing as much information as possible.
