Apply for a school place during the school year

When you apply for a school place during the school year, it’s known as an in-year school admission.

It may be in your child’s best interests to change their school during the school year. But it can disrupt your child’s education and may have other impacts.

Why your child might need an in-year school admission

Your child might need to start at a new school because you:

• recently moved into the borough
• are planning to move into the borough soon
• are moving from one area of the borough to another
• currently educate your child at home

If you're planning to apply for a school place during the school year for any other reason, consider:

• the effect on your child’s education
• your child’s social and emotional needs
• your home and family circumstances
• other options that could resolve your concerns about the current school
