Getting involved with the scrutiny process
Putting forward your ideas
Input from local people and organisations is a crucial part of the scrutiny review process. Local people and organisations suggest ideas for reviews, and write and give evidence when a review is being carried out.
How can I get involved?
You can get involved in the work of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee and its panels by:
- putting forward ideas for review topics
- giving your views on specific issues which the Overview and Scrutiny Committee or its panels are investigating
- attending scrutiny meetings to provide oral evidence when requested
- attending scrutiny meetings (you will need prior permission of the panel chair to speak at these meetings).
Please see our meetings schedule for more on attending and speaking at Council meetings.
How to put forward a topic for review
Please let us know if there is a key local issue that you would like our Overview and Scrutiny Committee to consider for review as part of its work programme.
We have a review proposal form that you can download and complete. This form will ask you for all the information that you need to provide.
Helpful support information includes:
- an explanation of the subject of the review that you are proposing
- the reasons why you think it is important that the topic is reviewed
- the changes that you would like to see as a result of us undertaking the review.
Our overview and scrutiny work programme is put together in spring each year and runs until the following May.
This means that there may be a gap between the time that we receive your idea and the time when it is considered for inclusion in the annual work programme.
Please note that there is a limit to the number of reviews we can carry out each year.
