Deputy Leader Cllr Danny Thorpe unveiled a new drinking water fountain on Sunday 9 July at Shrewsbury Park in Shooters Hill.

The unveiling represents the culmination of a five-year project for the installation of a water fountain for park visitors and also a lower tap for dog walkers to pour bowls of water for thirsty pets.

The Friends of Shrewsbury Park fund-raised for the fountain through a yearly summer festival, the sale of calendars and through generous private donations. Royal Borough of Greenwich ward councillors then used their designated ward budgets to provide the remaining £1000 funding needed to make the installation of the fountain a reality.

'Designed to aid worthwhile community initiatives'

Deputy Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich Councillor Danny Thorpe said, "The Royal Borough's Ward Budgets Scheme was specifically designed to aid worthwhile community initiatives such as this. I also think the Friends of Shrewsbury Park deserve recognition for their hard work in fund-raising and partnership working to make this water fountain project a reality."

The Royal Borough of Greenwich Ward Budget Scheme was introduced for ward councillors to support community initiatives and projects which make a difference to the local area.
