Greenwich Dances gets under way this week as Royal Greenwich Festivals continues.

World-class performances, immersive shows and have-a-go workshops will be on offer across the borough for residents and visitors to enjoy over the next three weeks.

Highlights of the festival

The festival kicks off with Moving Woolwich, a day of dance in General Gordon Square on Friday 16 June. Running from 1pm to 6pm, the event will include dance workshops, information on getting active and screenings of dance films, before culminating in a performance by local youngsters.

Other festival highlights include a special free screening of Dirty Dancing complete with a workshop where you can learn classic moves from the Oscar-winning film, and The Supper Room, which combines a tasty themed meal with a live performance from award-winning hip hop dance company Boy Blue Entertainment.

Residents who have never visited Borough Hall before can take advantage of a special offer allowing them to book a ticket to some performances taking place in the venue for just £1.

Opening up dance for all to enjoy

Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald, Cabinet Member for Culture, Creative Industries and Community Well-Being, said: "I'm delighted that Greenwich Dance is bringing world-class dance to our doorsteps for the seventh consecutive year. This key part of Royal Greenwich Festivals offers free and low cost events and performances, enabling people from all backgrounds to enjoy dance.

"The varied programme will attract residents and visitors alike, making important contributions to our local economy and helping reinforce Royal Greenwich as a must-visit destination."
