Ways to vote

If you're aged 18 or over on election day, registered to vote and a British citizen, you can vote in this year's general election. Citizens of the Republic of Ireland resident in the UK and citizens of qualifying Commonwealth states resident in the UK can also vote if they are over 18 and registered to vote. You can choose your method of voting depending on your personal circumstances.

Moving home

If you have moved home in the last twelve months or have not previously registered to vote at your current address, you need to make sure that you are on the electoral register in order to be eligible to vote.

Students

If you're a student and registered to vote in two areas - at home and at university - you can only vote in one at a general election. It is a criminal offence to vote twice in a UK general election.

Postal or proxy voting

If you can't get to a polling station on Thursday 8 June, or if you plan to be away on polling day, you can apply to vote by post before 5pm on Tuesday 23 May 2017. Alternatively, you can even vote by proxy by nominating someone else to vote on your behalf.

To do so, please visit the ways to vote web page.

If you are already registered for a postal vote or you registered to vote by post before Monday 24 April 2017, you will receive your ballot papers from Friday 19 May.

If you registered for a postal vote after Monday 24 April, you will receive your ballot papers from Wednesday 31 May.

You must return the pack as soon as possible so it arrives back by 10pm on Thursday 8 June 2017.
