The Woolwich Exchange project proposes to redevelop an urban area of Woolwich for a new cinema, restaurants, shops, 800 new homes and public spaces.

Planning permission has been granted and developers, a joint venture partnership between St. Modwen and Notting Hill Genesis, are ready to undertake the redevelopment.

A report recommending the use of a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to bring about the Woolwich Exchange development has been agreed by Cabinet.

The Council and the developer will continue to work with all businesses and property owners to try to relocate businesses and agree to purchase land without the use of a CPO. However, this step has been taken in case terms cannot be agreed with all the relevant parties, to ensure redevelopment is not unduly delayed and the investment lost.

The report was agreed by the Council’s Cabinet on 23 March 2022 and is subject to a five day call-in period.

Notes

The report was scheduled to be published on 16 March but for reasons unrelated to the project, it was put back a week to the 23 March. The Council appreciates this may create additional confusion and concern for some occupiers and owners within the area. Please email regeneration@royalgreenwich.gov.uk if you have any queries.
