Day opportunities offer people the chance to take part in activities, which help them to meet their needs and be more independent. The consultation sets out the proposed new model – called a ‘Hub and Spoke’ model. There would be a central day centre (the hub) that provides day opportunities to those with complex needs, complemented by activities for people to get involved with out in the community (the spokes). 

Co-production is at the heart of the consultation approach. The council has worked with people with learning disabilities and their families and carers, as well as other stakeholders, through the 100 Day Challenge to develop the re-designed model for the new day opportunities service. 

Now, a period of public consultation has begun, which gives people the chance to have their say about the new proposed model.  

Genuine partnership working – where the voices of people with learning disabilities, their families and carers are listened to and acted on – will ensure that local services deliver better outcomes for people with learning disabilities living in Royal Greenwich. 

 Cllr Miranda Williams, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “Day opportunities provide people with learning disabilities with an enjoyable, safe environment to socialise and do something new. They also give families and carers a much-needed break from their caring duties.  

“By co-producing the new proposed model for day opportunities, that we hope the new approach offers residents with learning disabilities independence, choice and the chance to live the best life they can in Royal Greenwich. 

“There will be some people who feel very positive about the new approach, and others who have their concerns. We want to hear from everyone so that – when the new day opportunities are launched – they are the best they can be for residents, their families and carers.”

• filling out a print version of the consultation survey 
• signing up to give your feedback in person or in an online meeting
