On Monday 17 May, Cllr Denise Scott-McDonald, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy & Skills, visited Vue in Eltham on its grand reopening day.

As part of the Government’s COVID-19 roadmap, indoor hospitality can now reopen and indoor entertainment can resume, including cinemas, museums, and children’s play areas.

Cllr Denise Scott-McDonald, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy & Skills, said:

“Being able to watch a movie in the cinema is such a powerful, fun and immersive experience. We’re lucky to have several cinemas in the borough, including Vue Eltham, that are reopening so that all our film loving residents can now watch films on the big screen again in a safe environment.

“But it’s not just cinemas that can reopen, museums, indoor entertainment and children’s play areas have been given the green light too – so please remember to support your local venues. We have so many fantastic places right on our doorstep.”

Ashley Richardson, General Manager at Vue Eltham, said:

“We are delighted to finally open our doors today and welcome our staff and customers in Eltham back. We know what demand there is for out-of-home experiences that can provide true escapism, and the big screen experience delivers just that.

“Some fantastic films are showing in our first few weeks including Peter Rabbit 2, Cruella, Godzilla vs. Kong and Mortal Kombat, as well as events such as the UEFA Champions League final in partnership with BT Sport and Glastonbury Presents: Live at Worthy Farm.

“We look forward to safely welcoming our customers in Eltham through the doors again.”

Royal Museums Greenwich which includes the Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory, The Queen’s House and Old Royal Naval College will all be re-opening on 17 May too.

As part of the Government’s COVID-19 roadmap from 17 May up to six people or two households will be able to meet indoors and up to 30 people outdoors.

All remaining outdoor entertainment can reopen, such as outdoor cinemas and performances. Some larger events will be able to take place, including conferences, theatre and concert performances, and sports events. Restrictions on the number of attendees will remain as set out in the Government's roadmap.

Eltham cinema, operated by Vue Entertainment Limited, and the wider restaurant complex was built by the Council and is the culmination of its ambitious regeneration of Eltham High Street.
