Healthy food is the name of the game this February half-term, with holiday meals and food and utilities support payments rounding off the end of the Greenwich Together for Winter campaign.
The campaign, which kicked off in December, will cover February half-term to make sure children in the Royal Borough of Greenwich do not go without.
From Monday 15 February, nutritious balanced lunches will be available for children and young people across the borough ensuring that the most vulnerable families are supported.
The service will follow social distancing guidelines. ‘Grab-and-go' style meals, to be enjoyed at home, will be on offer at six different locations, including:
Venue Serving Time
Woolwich Library 12pm – 1pm
Plumstead Centre 12pm – 1pm
Thamesmere Leisure Centre 12pm – 1pm
Greenwich Centre 12pm – 1pm
Eltham Centre 12pm – 1pm
Sutcliffe Park 12.30 – 1.30pm
And there are two other initiatives are also taking place:
· A ‘food and utilities’ payment for families who are on free school meals
· ‘Take and Make’ meal kits for 2,500 young people allowing them to prepare a nutritious meal at home for the whole family
Cllr Matt Morrow, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Royal Greenwich is committed to supporting our children and we continue to offer healthy, good quality food outside of term time.
“Children across Royal Greenwich deserve a nutritious meal and we will do our very best to offer that to all who need it.
“Everybody in Royal Greenwich has the same goal and are working incredibly hard to spread the word and give out hundreds of meals. I want to thank all involved with this project.”
Cllr Danny Thorpe, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, added: “Hunger and food poverty continues to be a huge issue for many families as we all continue to be impacted by this pandemic. It’s crucial that we ensure our young people and families continue to be supported.”
The service is commissioned by Royal Greenwich and delivered by Greenwich Co-operative Development Agency (GCDA), supported by partners Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) and Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL).
