Following a visit from Ofsted inspectors in December 2019, the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s children’s social care services have once again been rated ‘Good’ in all categories.
Ofsted’s inspectors performed a rigorous audit of all areas of children’s social care services during a four-day visit in which they found that our, “well-trained, supported and motivated workforce,” are performing well to ensure that, “children who need help and protection receive a service that is timely and of good quality.”
Cllr Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Community Safety, said: “This inspection demonstrates the continued high standards delivered by our hard-working and dedicated children’s social care teams. Keeping children and young people in our borough safe and ensuring that they have strong foundations despite adversity is a top priority for the Council. I’m incredibly proud of all our staff for doing such a good job and also being acknowledged for it.”
Inspectors recognised the, “strong drive and ambition for children,” in Royal Greenwich and that, “political leaders have invested well to ensure that children’s needs are prioritised,” going on to state that Royal Greenwich’s, “corporate commitment to children’s services is evident, backed up by financial support for the delivery of core services.”
The report praises Royal Greenwich’s social workers, stating that they, “know their children well and are clear about what needs to be achieved, seeking children’s wishes and finding out about their feelings during timely visits.”
It was also commented that, “partnerships at both strategic and operational levels are strong.”
Our frontline, senior staff and elected members were all commended by the inspectors, who stated that a, “good quality of work…has been sustained and improved,” with a, “broad range of preventative and targeted services.”
The last time Royal Greenwich’s children’s social care services were inspected by Ofsted was in August 2016, when they were also rated ‘Good’ across the board.
