Eltham Lights Up 2018

Published: Monday, 18th November 2019

Kick off the countdown to Christmas with our annual Christmas light switch-on events, with the first two taking place in Greenwich and Eltham this week.

Greenwich Lights On is ready to light up Greenwich Market and Cutty Sark Gardens on 20 November and Eltham Lights Up returns to sparkle the streets with lanterns on 21 November at Eltham High Street. Both events start at 4pm and will finish at 7pm, giving plenty of time to take selfies in the human-sized snow globe, eat lots of food and dance along to live music.

Cllr Miranda Williams, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Third Sector said: “I cannot wait to see the magic unfold at our Christmas celebrations this year. We have so much happening including performers, Christmas markets and food stalls… there is something for all the family, so I would encourage everyone to come along.”

Greenwich Lights On

Greenwich Lights On will be decking the halls in conjunction with Greenwich Hospital and the fantastic lantern parade will include the following primary schools: Invicta, St Matthew Academy, James Wolfe and Meridian.

In Greenwich Market, you will find Santa’s Grotto and heaps of other family entertainment.

Make your way over to Cutty Sark Gardens where can do your Christmas shopping at the Christmas market while being entertained by the street and stage performers. You will also find selfie opportunities in the snow globe photo booth and children’s activities which include: arts and crafts, balloon modelling and fairground rides.

Gillie Bexson, Property Director Greenwich Hospital, said: “It is a joy to see the Greenwich community come together at this time of year and celebrate as one. Greenwich has a creative heart and we hope that community events like this nurture this creativity. The lanterns always look so beautiful and these talented children may just be our designer makers of the future.  We may just see them on the Market or exhibiting in the shops of Greenwich one day.”
