'Greenwich is a great place to grow up'

Cllr David Gardner, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member of Children’s Services, said:

"We look forward to welcoming Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls into the fold of the borough’s family of schools. Greenwich is a great place to grow up. The majority of our schools are either Good or Outstanding and the new Girls’ Polytechnic will further enhance the high quality of education available in our borough."

'The support has been overwhelming'

Tim Plumb, CEO PolyMAT and Subreena Kazmi, Head Teacher WPSfG, said:

"It is wonderful to see Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls becoming a reality. The support has been overwhelming and to be oversubscribed in our first year is something truly special. We are delighted that Thamesmead will at long last have equal secondary school provision for girls and boys and we are looking forward to Poly Girls and Poly Boys being a central part of the local community for many years to come."

Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls will have 29 classrooms, ten science laboratories, eight ICT suites, three art classrooms, and classrooms for music, drama and general practice as well as a four-court sports hall.

The school building has been funded by the Department of Education and will be run by the PolyMAT academy chain, who also run Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys.
