The Royal Borough of Greenwich partnered with the Volunteer Centre Greenwich to hold 'Recognition 100', an event established to recognise residents who have volunteered for 100 hours or more.

Volunteers help organisations across the borough to provide more to the people or services they serve. Volunteering is also invaluable to individuals themselves, bringing health benefits, opportunities for positive social interaction and friendships, and providing new skills or experiences beneficial for future employment.

Local estate agent Beaumont Gibbs provided sponsorship for the event, which was hosted by Shrewsbury House with refreshments provided by local award winning Feast Food.

More than 50 people attended the event at Shrewsbury House, with 22 volunteers receiving a framed certificate presented by The Mayor of Greenwich, Cllr Christine May.

Organisations registered with Volunteer Centre Greenwich in the Royal Borough could nominate any volunteer that has committed 100 hours or more, and each receives a certificate and pin.

Volunteer Centre Greenwich helps potential volunteers to find suitable opportunities in a wide range of organisations in the borough. They also support the business sector to deliver any CSR (corporate social responsibility) activities.

Volunteer Centre Greenwich also works with the Royal Borough's jobs brokerage service GLLaB to help people develop the skills they need through volunteering to progress into paid employment.

'I'm delighted to be part of this celebration'

Presenting the certificates, the Mayor of Greenwich, Councillor Christine May said: "Volunteers make such a significant contribution to our borough, and I'm delighted to be part of this celebration event to recognise each individuals' 100 hours of volunteering for their chosen organisation."
