The Fishyard and Steak restaurant in Powis Street was officially opened on Tuesday.

Greenwich Mayor Cllr Peter Brooks and Cllr Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Environment, joined the restaurant owner Raif Hassan at the launch.

The Fishyard and Steak is a traditional fish and chips and steak restaurant. Raif Hassan also runs the nearby KKs Cafe Bar Grill on Calderwood Street and is signing up both of his businesses to the Royal Greenwich Business Community Charter.

Business Community Charter

Under the Charter, launched by the Council in February, businesses pledge to keep their premises looking attractive, encourage their customers to bin litter and to make sure their rubbish is collected by a licensed waste carrier.

The Council's pledges in the Business Charter, and the accompanying Resident Charter, include taking enforcement action against all kinds of enviro-crime including fly-tipping, littering and graffiti.

The Council is also committing to invest in the latest technology to keep town centres clean and litter free and provide first class household and commercial rubbish removal services.

Cllr Smith said: "We are working hand-in-hand with both our residents and businesses to achieve the shared goal of having a clean, litter free environment. This new eatery is a vote of confidence in the town centre from an existing business owner and one who is committed to Woolwich's long term future and our aim of building civic pride in the town centres."
