The week of 5 to 9 March sees a host of events celebrating the achievements of our apprentices.
Royal Greenwich is highlighting the positive impact apprenticeship programmes can have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
Awards ceremony at the Construction Skills Centre
On Monday 5 March 2018, a special apprenticeships awards ceremony will be held at the Kidbrooke Construction Skills Centre. Councillor Danny Thorpe, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Sustainability will present the first class of course learners with certificates for completing pre-apprenticeship training in Formwork construction.
Cllr Thorpe said: "This project is a great example of looking at what the needs of industry and businesses are and focusing apprenticeships where there is demand. The successful students on this course will have the opportunity to join apprenticeship programmes with major construction companies currently working in the Royal Greenwich."

On Wednesday 7 March 2018, a graduation ceremony for borough apprentices who have successfully completed their qualification will be held at the Town Hall, hosted by the Royal Greenwich Mayor Cllr Peter Brooks and Cllr Chris Kirby, Cabinet Member for Human Resources, Co-operatives and Social Enterprise.
'Focused on encouraging apprenticeships'
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has been recognised as one of the top apprentice and apprenticeship employers in the country. The Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer Awards celebrate those employers that have shown the greatest commitment to apprenticeships. Royal Greenwich is the only local authority to be honoured in this year's awards.
Cllr Kirby said: "In recent years the Council has really focused on encouraging apprenticeships within the council and in wider business in the borough. Apprentice schemes are an important way of proving opportunities and a pathway to rewarding careers for broad range of our residents."
Davina Assani is currently on an apprenticeship in customer services with the Council. Davina said: "Apprenticeships can change your career path forever. I can truly say an apprenticeship is a great career pathway."
In 2017 there were 67 new recruits to apprenticeship schemes in the Council. There were a further 51 apprenticeship opportunities, aided by GLLaB, for local people with external employers.
