Some of our bid ideas will be brought to life thanks to our London Borough of Culture campaign.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announced the winning boroughs on Tuesday 27 February at City Hall.

Our bid

Greenwich+Docklands Festival were commissioned to deliver Royal Greenwich's bid which was developed through a wide-ranging public consultation process which included input from 49 Borough-wide organisations plus a further 100 individuals, including 72 young people.

Greenwich Culture Forum was formed during the bid process and will continue to receive support from the Council to strengthen the Borough's cultural sector and enhance opportunities for collaboration.

A to Z of culture

An 'A to Z of culture' created by motion graphics students at Ravensbourne College will be revealed shortly, with further initiatives set to be announced.

'Rightly proud of Royal Greenwich's cultural heritage'

Councillor Denise Hyland, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: "Congratulations to Waltham Forest and Brent for being selected as London Borough of Culture for 2019 and 2020 respectively.

"We are rightly proud of Royal Greenwich's cultural heritage as a major gateway to London where diversity and history uniquely intersect in a spirit of generosity and welcome. I can't wait to see some of the ideas in our bid brought to life.

"I'm excited about how the public consultation and workshops we held in the run up to our bid has started a conversation about how cultural activity in the Borough can contribute towards our key priorities of tackling poverty, decreasing socio-economic inequality and improving well-being.

"And with Street Feast opening later this week, the 2018 Royal Greenwich Festivals programme set to be announced shortly and the Woolwich Creative District due to open next year, there's lots to look forward to culturally, both short term and further ahead."
