The Royal Borough of Greenwich has teamed up with Charlton Athletic Community Trust for the 'Blood Pressure - Be Sure' roadshow.

The seven week campaign will give residents the chance to get a free blood pressure check and receive tailored health advice and support from friendly trained advisors.

Almost half of people who have high blood pressure don't know it, so it's really important to get yours checked. High blood pressure increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke and heart and kidney disease, and it is also closely linked to some forms of dementia.

'Blood Pressure - Be Sure' roadshow

The 'Blood Pressure - Be Sure' roadshow will kick off on Tuesday 17 October at Sainsbury's in Charlton before touring some of the busiest and most popular locations all around the borough.

Even if your blood pressure isn't high, as long as it's not too low it's worthwhile making changes to bring it down a little. Even small changes like eating less salt and more fruit and vegetables, moving more and getting more sleep can help reduce your chances of getting high blood pressure or help lower your blood pressure if it's already high.

Stopping smoking and cutting down on alcohol and caffeine can also reduce your blood pressure, along with having the added benefit of helping you feel and look good.

'Really convenient for residents to check their blood pressure'

Councillor David Gardner, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: "The 'Blood Pressure - Be Sure' roadshow makes it really convenient for residents to check their blood pressure while they're out and about.

"It only takes a minute to find out your blood pressure so I'd encourage everyone to come down and check yours - it could be the important first step to reducing your risk of a heart attack or stroke."
