Identifying contacts of positive COVID-19 cases is a key element of the NHS Test and Trace service and another way in which we can fight the pandemic.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich provides a local tracing service in partnership with the NHS.

Royal Greenwich residents benefit from an enhanced council-run COVID-19 tracing service in our collective efforts to stop the spread of the virus.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich tracing service will now follow up all positive cases of COVID-19 identified through our testing sites.

Previously initial contact was made by the NHS Test and Trace team. Now the council team will make contact on the same day the case is entered into the national NHS Test and Trace system.

Once our team is alerted that someone has tested positive (usually within an hour) they will contact the resident to discuss who they have been in contact with, provide well-needed information on the support available. It also means that we can use our local knowledge to find out where residents may have caught the virus to manage any local outbreaks.

So if you get a phone call from us it’s not a scam! You can check the number of who is calling to be sure – the Royal Greenwich Contact Tracing service telephone number is: 020 8921 3100. The NHS Test and Trace service number is: 0300 013 5000.

We need your help to keep Royal Greenwich safe.

Why am I being contacted?

You are being contacted because you have had a positive test for coronavirus.

You will be asked a number of questions by the Royal Greenwich Tracing team to help us understand who and how best to reach those people who have been in close contact with you following your positive test.

What is close contact?

A contact is defined as:

  • direct close contacts - face to face contact with an infected individual for any length of time, within 1 metre, including being coughed on, a face to face conversation, or unprotected physical contact (skin-to-skin)
  • proximity contacts - extended close contact (within 1 to 2 metres for more than 15 minutes) with an infected individual
  • travelling in a small vehicle, like a car, with an infected person.

COVID-19 support payments

If you receive a positive COVID-19 test result or are told to self-isolate by the NHS because of close contact with someone who has COVID-19, you may be eligible for a £500 payment.

The payment is for people on a low income who must self-isolate for 10 days and cannot work from home during this period.

If a significant number of cases of a COVID-19 variant of concern are found in the borough, we’re ready to roll out surge testing in affected areas.
