Circumstances where information may not be released

In most cases, a child can see all the information we hold about them. We always try and share as much as possible.

However, there are circumstances where information may not be released for legal or practical reasons. These include:

  • Information about other people or information given about the child by another person or people who may not have agreed to share it
  • Where it would be unlawful for a child to see the information (this is usually the case in legal proceedings)
  • Where we believe that sharing information with the child may cause serious harm to them or other people, or reveal the identity of the person who gave the information confidentially
  • Where information has been destroyed under our destruction policy. We do not keep information longer than is necessary in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998
