Coronavirus COVID-19: Latest updates

Many council services are reduced or disrupted. Check our coronavirus page for the most up-to-date information. Read the latest and sign up for updates.

Unfortunately, we have had to make some changes to our ordering service for recycling sacks and bin liners until further notice and we can take orders now for clear recycling sacks only.

We hope to start taking orders for purchasable items and sacks in the next two weeks, so please check back for updates.

Use your blue top wheelie bin for recycling

Due to disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, clear sacks are currently not available to collect from our libraries.

You may normally use clear recycling sacks to recycle at home, but unfortunately we are not able to distribute these in the same way we have previously. Our delivery staff are supporting waste collections during this challenging time. If you have a blue top wheelie bin, you can continue to recycle without using these sacks. At Royal Greenwich we are keen to reduce the amount of single-use plastic that is used.

You can help to reduce the use of plastics by putting your recycling loose instead of bagged up in your blue top bin. Not only is this kinder to the environment but also gives you more space in the bin and is easier for us to sort. Please do not use plastic carrier bags – re-use them or take them to a supermarket to be recycled when you do your essential shopping.

If you do not have a blue top wheelie bin

For residents that use a communal blue top bin or do not have any wheelie bins due to lack of storage space, we know that these sacks make recycling possible.

We are working hard to ensure that all of our residents can continue to recycle, so if you are a resident in a flat or in a house with no storage room for bins, you can order clear sacks by calling us on 020 8921 4661. You will be able to order 2 rolls of sacks which should last 6 months, using 2 sacks per week.
