Greenwich Supports: Helping residents through winter

The Royal Borough of Greenwich would like to invite organisations to submit bids for either of the Greenwich Supports small grant programmes.

There are two different funding opportunities available; community fund grants for food and utility projects and grants for warm spaces.

Warm Spaces

For Warm Spaces, the scheme is intended to support the setting up or improvement of physical warm spaces, as well as enabling indoor activities that encourage residents to come together to share, create and socialise. Warm spaces are places where people can gather for free in a warm, safe, welcoming place, which could include free Wi-Fi, refreshments or group activities.

There is a minimum of £300 and a maximum of £3,000 available for each organisation who applies and is successful. The focus of the scheme is on supporting activities taking place in the winter months up to 16 April 2023.

This funding can be used for, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Providing space and/or support for resident led activities such as craft making or game playing (e.g. costs for room hire, materials etc)

  • Extending opening times and support to enable people to re-charge devices or simply have a safe space to be in

  • Improving an existing space so more people can use the facility

  • Improving disabled access and facilities

  • Covering energy costs involved in running a warm space, and/or energy efficiency measures to keep the space warm

  • Running costs including staffing or volunteer costs

  • Providing hot and cold drinks. If you want to provide more substantial food provision (such as hot meals) and would look to apply for funding for this, please apply separately through the Greenwich Supports Small Grants programme

  • Anything else that enables the space to be open and welcoming

Small Grants Community Fund

For the Small Grants Community Fund, the scheme is aimed at organisations who support vulnerable households with food provision, warm clothes and/ or utilities.

There is a minimum of £100 and a maximum of £9,950 available for each organisation who applies and is successful.  All funding must be spent, and the majority of each project completed by 16th April 2023.

This funding can be used for, but not limited to, the following suggestions:

  • Supplementing the surplus food offer to meet the needs of residents - this may include a focus on culturally appropriate food

  • Buying equipment such as storage or refrigeration solutions to support the food agenda within community settings

  • Piloting community food buying options such as social supermarkets, community coops, community fruit and veg stalls and pantries.

  • Piloting community fridge models

  • Implementing proactive community food related activity such as adopting the Good Food in Greenwich charter, including cookery or food growing skills development and improved food procurement

  • Supporting households with household bills

  • Supporting households to access warm clothes, etc

  • Accessing training required to implement any of the above

We are seeking a wide range of organizations to submit bids, however small.
