Celebrate the lunar festival, Diwali, with dance, music, art and a celebration of light at the National Maritime Museum. Watch a performance by the Bollywood Co, before trying a few moves out for you

  • Lantern making - Create a reflective lantern with artist Ling Chiu inspired by the lotus flower and add it to the display in the Voyagers Gallery.
  • Rangoli art - Join artist Meera Chauda to create Rangoli patterns that will become a colourful part of the evening parade.
  • Drumming workshop - Come along and make some noise with traditional Indian drums. Learn new rhythms and beats together.
  • Bharatanatyam storytelling - Explore the stories of Diwali through expressive storytelling sessions run by the Bhavan Gallery.
  • Beats of Diwali - Join artist Sara Byers to create colour and sound to use in the evening parade.
  • Bollywood Co performance and workshop - Head to the Great Map to watch the Bollywood Co dancers perform. Learn some dance moves yourself, ready to show off in the parade.
  • Character Encounter with Raj the Dockworker - Come and meet Raj, a dockworker in London. Raj will introduce you to 'Sailortown' and trade between India and Britain.
  • Diwali Parade - In the evening join in the annual Diwali parade from the National Maritime Museum to Greenwich Park. This year bring along the crafts you make in the Rangoli art and Beats of Diwali session to make the parade as colourful and noisy as possible!
