Severndroog's partner The Terrace Tearoom’s celebrated chef, Christopher Hackett, will be cooking up delicious food and providing wine and beer all evening, which will be available for purchase on the evening. THE PLAY: NELL GWYNN BY JESSICA SWALE - THE SMASH HIT MUSICAL COMEDY FROM THE GLOBE “They’ve disgraced our trade. Ruined our art. They put a woman on the stage!” London, 1660, King Charles II has exploded onto the scene with the love of all things loud, extravagant and sexy. And at Drury Lane a young Nell Gwynn is causing stirrings amongst the theatregoers. Nell Gwynn charts the rise of an unlikely heroine, from her roots in Coal Yard Alley, to her success as Britain’s most celebrated actress, and her hard won place in the heart of the King. But at a time when women are second-class citizens, can her charm and spirit protect her from the dangers of the court? The British playwright Jessica Swale’s Nell Gwynn premiered at Shakespeare’s Globe in 2015 and was nominated for five awards, winning a 2016 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. Changeling’s creative director Rob Forknall says: “Every year we ask our audience to vote for their choice of plays the following year. We have a real connection with our audiences, and the vote is an important part of what we do. This year the people of Kent have spoken and voted for Nell Gwynn in last years audience poll, it’s the first time we have performed a play in the open air by a living, FEMALE playwright. We are very excited. I saw this show at the Globe and thought it perfect for our audiences, sexy and funny.”
