This is an event to discuss hate crime statistics, barriers to reporting and how to improve co-operation between the community and public authorities.

Tell MAMA, the only national and independent monitor of anti-Muslim hate crime, and Greenwich Inclusion Project (GrIP), a local organisation that challenges racism by promoting fairness, respect, inclusion and change, invites you to an event to discuss their findings on hate crime, barriers to reporting and how to improve co-operation between the community and public authorities.

Nationally, hate crime is chronically under reported. Between 2017/18 there were 512 incidents reported across Greenwich. In 2017 the University of Huddersfield estimated that only one in four hate crimes are reported. There is also a concern that hate crime will increase following Brexit. This event will allow local people to identify the barriers to reporting all forms of hate crime and help us discuss solutions.

The event will involve a specialist panel including community groups, the police and representatives from the Council. Light refreshments will be provided.
