Introducing… Greg: Delivery Manager
Meet Greg, our new Delivery Manager. In this blog he tells us why we wanted to work at Royal Greenwich and his route into delivery management.
Hello! I’m Greg, a delivery manager who’s just joined Royal Greenwich as part of the Digital and Customer Service team.
I’ve taken a bit of an odd route to get here, waiting tables, putting up marquees, making videogames and constructing online MBAs. All these things have taught me what’s important in where I work – somewhere supportive, committed to developing its staff and offers interesting challenges. I was fortunate to find not only these qualities but also delivery management itself while at Essex County Council. They set me up brilliantly to take the leap into my new role here at Royal Greenwich.
I’m excited to join the council as Greenwich is tackling digital transformation in a way I admire. There is clear ambition in the Digital Strategy and we are taking bold action as an organisation to achieve it. I’ve always appreciated the same values in smaller teams I’ve been part of. Being open about your intentions takes courage - if people know what you’re aiming for, they’ll know if you fail. Accountability and credibility should never be underestimated in my book.
Like many, I got into local government because I wanted a more direct link between my actions and actually helping people. Everything this team does is user-led, it prioritises empathy and understanding of real people, so it’s very easy to see how our work is all about making lives better.
Lastly, this team embodies a people-first culture to an extent I’ve not before experienced. I may have only been here three weeks but, through every interaction with my new colleagues, it’s abundantly clear all the claims were true; this is a supportive and nurturing environment that empowers people to do their best work. As both a delivery manager and mental health first aider this is music to my ears.
Frankly, I feel lucky to have the opportunity to work with such talented people and can’t wait to get stuck in to empower and support my teams in supporting and empowering our users!
