Book a citizenship ceremony

Updated 21 June 2023

Bookings are now being taken but priority is for bookings where the expiry date on the certificate is imminent. However, should there be exceptional circumstances please send us details and evidence to enable us to consider an urgent appointment.

If you wish to book a group ceremony this can be arranged via our contact centre on 020 8921 5015/6 - we currently have dates available from May.

If you wish to book a private ceremony, please email Registrar@royalgreenwich.gov.uk, including your telephone contact numbers

We do not offer virtual ceremonies, but if you wish for your certificate to be transferred to a borough that does please contact UKVI who will process your request.

The final step on the journey to becoming a British citizen, for most people, is to swear or affirm an oath of allegiance to His Majesty the King at a citizenship ceremony.

In 2003, the government introduced the requirement that all persons over 18 years of age applying for naturalisation or registration as a British citizen must take a citizenship oath and pledge at a citizenship ceremony.

The ceremonies are a time for celebration and provide an opportunity to officially welcome new citizens as full members of their local community and to this nation. As a Royal Borough, it is most appropriate for us to extend this welcome and confer the honour of citizenship upon you.

When to book your ceremony

Contact us one week after you get your Home Office Invitation letter to book your ceremony. You need to wait a week as it can take some time for your citizenship certificate to arrive at our office.

You must have your ceremony within three months of the date printed on the invitation letter from the Home Office.

Rescheduling your ceremony

You are legally required to have your ceremony within three months of the date of your Home Office invitation letter.

If you wish to reschedule the ceremony we may not be able to offer you your first choice of date, but we'll try to find a date that is suitable for you.
