If your marriage is due to take place in a licensed venue in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, please email  Registrar@royalgreenwich.gov.uk including the following:

  • full contact details including email and telephone number
  • date
  • time
  • location of your wedding
  • whether you have given Notice already, and if so the date

Upon receipt of your email, we will send a Terms and Conditions form, Notice information and prices. If you wish to proceed please return the signed form for your request to be considered.

We will try to accommodate the time and date of your wedding but until the signed Terms and Conditions are received and payment has been made, this cannot be guaranteed.

Due to the volume of emails and enquiries we receive, we ask that you please do not send multiple emails regarding the same booking. We will respond in order of the date of the ceremony, and at the latest within 1 month of receiving your email.

Should your ceremony be within six weeks, we will prioritise your request and if you have not had a reply within seven working days please email or call.

Greenwich Register Office is likely to be booked six months in advance. Please note the Register Office can only accommodate the couple and two witnesses only. We have more availability in our Edwardian Room.

Due to the high level of requests we are dealing with dates will be discussed when we call to book and take payment. We will not be able to answer regular calls and emails to check dates are available as they might not be available by the time your booking takes place.

Before you can enter a civil partnership/marry you must give Notice of your Intention at your local Register Office; the next available Notice appointments in Greenwich are in 10 weeks.  If you have a confirmed marriage or civil partnership booked before then, please advise the call handler when you contact us as we may be able to offer you an earlier ‘emergency’ appointment.  Confirmation of your marriage / civil partnership booking will be required in order for us to provide an earlier appointment.

Wedding and civil partnership ceremony guest numbers

Guest numbers for ceremonies taking place in the Town Hall are set out below:

Greenwich Register Office – strictly the couple and two witnesses

The Edwardian Room – the couple and 36 guests

The Victoria Hall –  the couple and 120 guests

There are two types of marriage ceremonies:

  • civil marriages – take place at a number of venues licensed to hold civil ceremonies
  • religious marriages – take place in any religious building that's registered for marriage.

Before booking your marriage date, make sure you have enough time to give notice of your intention to marry if required. There must be a minimum of 28 / 70 days (dependent on immigration status) between giving Notice and date of marriage / civil partnership.

If you want to get married abroad, read the guidance on getting married abroad (Gov.UK).

If you're already married and want to get remarried, you should contact the Register Office.

Civil partnerships

You do not need to have a ceremony for a civil partnership, you can choose to sign the Civil Partnership Schedule in front of two qualified witnesses by booking a statutory ceremony appointment (subject to availability).

If you wish to have a full ceremony, you will need to book a venue and registrars ahead of booking an appointment to give your legal notice of intention.

If you wish to have a civil partnership ceremony in the Edwardian Room or any of the approved venues in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, visit our Register office charges page.
