'Did you know' about our anti-littering competition?

The Great British Spring Clean was a great success as local schools, parks groups and Environment Champions rallied together to participate in borough-wide litter-picks and clean-ups.

Local schools also participated in the 'Did you know' competition in which students incorporated key anti-littering messages in their eye-catching designs such as 'Did you know that you can be fined £400 for fly-tipping?' and 'Did you know that the Council runs a bulky waste collection service?'

By popular demand, the Royal Borough has extended the deadline for its poster competition to allow even more children to take part in this exciting campaign. Participating students will receive a pin badge for entering with the winning students' posters displayed in prominent places throughout the borough, mirroring Transport for London's highly popular Junior Travel Ambassadors road safety posters.

Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Environment, said "The Great British Spring Clean provided a great opportunity for young people to participate in a national anti-littering campaign but also forge a lasting partnership with the Royal Borough of Greenwich in fostering a love and care for the local environment. Local schools still have a chance to show off their creative skills to help produce a brilliant anti-littering poster."

Councillor Miranda Williams, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, added "It was very encouraging to see such a wide range of exciting Great Spring Clean events taking place throughout the borough. We have received some very impressive designs from a number of schools and want to keep the momentum going so that the highest number of students can say that they played their part in this national campaign. I look forward to rewarding students at a Thank You event for their efforts very soon."

We would like all participating schools to submit a maximum of ten posters to us by sending them to the address below. Councillors will then select three winning posters to be printed and placed around the borough. In addition, the children who produced a winning design and the school they attend will receive a certificate to display.

The deadline for entries to this competition is Friday 16 June 2017.
