Royal Borough students celebrate A-Level and BTEC success

Published Friday, 19 August 2016

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is celebrating the latest success of its students!

A-Level exam passes have exceeded the national pass rate with the Royal Borough's students achieving an overall 98.3 per cent pass rate.

The borough's A* to B rate went up one percentage point, whereas nationally it has remained static, with some schools experiencing solid increases in their pass rates.

Of all students taking a vocational course (BTEC), 81 per cent achieved the equivalent to an A* to B grade - an improvement from 73 per cent in 2015.

Councillor Miranda Williams, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Results day has to be one of the most exciting and life-changing days for many young people across the country. Our students in the Royal Borough of Greenwich have excelled themselves, beating the national average pass rate – the results speak volumes about the dedication and long hours that I know so many have put in to get such fantastic results.

"Along with the tireless efforts of parents and carers, I would like to thank all our teaching staff who have helped our young people reach this milestone point in their education – many of our students will be going on to prestigious universities, such as Cambridge, UCL, Leeds and Edinburgh. Many of our young people have already secured apprenticeships to take their learning to the next level, and eleven of our looked after children have gained the results to move on to university; we wish them every success. Congratulations and well done to everyone!

"There is always room for improvement and we have a programme of continuous support and improvement across all our schools to ensure they offer the best teaching that they possibly can – the results today demonstrate that our young people have what it takes to excel.”

Rachel Querec, from Thomas Tallis School, said: "Absolutely buzzing with these grades, extremely happy with art & design and now I can’t wait to go to Liverpool uni."
