Adult learners taster event: 21 January 2016

Published Tuesday, 19 January 2016

Thinking about learning a new skill, or want to take up a new hobby? The Royal Borough of Greenwich is hosting an adult learner’s taster event to help inspire residents to do just that.

There are scores of courses to choose from in the borough's many adult learning centres, from deep sea diving and growing your own veg, to photography and making stained glass. You could even learn a new language or improve your existing English skills.

Many of the courses are designed to help people get the skills they might need to get into employment, return to work - or even change career.

You can find out about some of the many subjects to choose from at a taster day:

  • Where: Eltham Centre, 2 Archery Road, Eltham SE9 1HA
  • When: Thursday 21 January, 10am to 3pm

You will be able to sign up to courses and even have a go at some of them. GLLaB staff will also be there to support and match local people with local vacancies.

Councillor Sizwe James, Cabinet Member for Business, Employment and Skills, said: "The new year is a time when many of us think about taking up a new hobby, or learning a new skill. Helping residents gain new skills and qualifications so that they can find work, or change careers is a key priority for the council, so whether you want to start an evening class to kick-start a new hobby, or learn digital skills to help you get a new job, there's a fantastic range of courses on offer throughout the borough.

"Adult learning is all about giving ourselves new skills and new confidence, there are also courses available that can be tailored specifically for people who have dyslexia and may need a little extra support.

"Why not go to our website and see what's on offer. You never know, you could be on the next series of Pottery Throwdown before you know it!"
