Royal Greenwich and faith leaders have issued statements following the atrocity.

Statement

Whether you live, work or study in the Royal Borough of Greenwich we know you will join us and our Council colleagues in condemning last night's atrocity in London Bridge.

Yet again we see terrorism attacking innocent victims in the most violent and vicious way.

We will not allow such extremism to defeat our democratic way of life. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful group of faith and community leaders and ward councillors who work hard to foster community cohesion and celebrate diversity.

Our thoughts must be with the victims, their families and friends. We have written to the Leader of the London Borough of Southwark, Cllr Peter John OBE and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan to express sympathy and solidarity on behalf of our borough.

Much praise and gratitude must go to the Police and the Emergency Services for their quick response and bravery in dealing with this incident and all they do to keep us safe.

Please be vigilant and stay safe as you go about your daily business. You may see an increased police presence but this is about giving people greater reassurance and does not mean there is any specific threat to our borough.

Thank you.

Cllr Denise Hyland, Leader, Royal Borough of Greenwich

Cllr Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Environment

We are appalled and angered by the terrorist attacks at London Bridge and Borough Market, in our home city. These acts of violence were truly shocking and we condemn them in the strongest terms.

Muslims everywhere are outraged and disgusted at these cowards who once again have destroyed the lives of our fellow Britons. That this should happen in this month of Ramadan, when many Muslims were praying and fasting only goes to show that these people respect neither life nor faith.

Our prayers are with the victims and all those affected. We commend the work of our emergency services working hard to keep us safe.

Adel Khaireh, Head of Greenwich Islamic Centre Youth Centre & Community Engagement

We, the Greenwich Sikh community, are horrified about this barbaric attack on innocent people of London. I was joined by Nirmal Singh and the congregation to pray for the victims and their families. We send our sincere condolences to the bereaved families. We also admire and appreciate the work of police, the NHS and all those who have worked so hard at this difficult time.

We stand in solidarity with the whole community of London - we strongly condemn such actions and stand together.
