Many volunteers find it changes their lives. Volunteering can lead people to a new career and new friendships, develop valuable life experience and build new skills for your CV.

There are currently 11,793 people volunteering for not-for-profit organisations in the Royal Borough.

Wide range of roles available

Volunteering in the Royal Borough of Greenwich is coordinated by Volunteer Centre Greenwich and there are a huge range of options available, many of which you may not even have previously thought about.

No matter what your age or interests there is a volunteer opportunity to suit you, from event planning and administration to gardening and befriending. Other examples include mentoring young people, becoming a school governor, working in a community centre and driving around people who are less mobile.

Information events

Volunteering Fair in Woolwich Equitable House

Volunteer Centre Greenwich has organised two events on Thursday 1 June including a Volunteering Fair which will be officially opened by the Mayor of Royal Greenwich Cllr Peter Brooks at 11am.

The fair, which will be held in Woolwich Equitable House and run from 10am to 3pm, will enable residents to speak face-to-face with organisations to find out what roles are available and apply for them.

Information stall in General Gordon Square

A volunteering information stall will also be stationed in Woolwich's General Gordon Square from 10am to 3pm to give people the chance to talk to volunteers and staff about their experiences.

Help others and learn new skills

Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald, Cabinet Member for Culture, Creative Industries, Community and Wellbeing, said: "Volunteers' Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK.

"Volunteering is a great way to not only help others but also learn new skills, make new friends, boost your CV and have fun. I'd encourage anyone who is thinking about volunteering to come along to the fair or visit the information stall and sign up to make a difference."
