To mark National Apprenticeship Week, taking place from 6 to 10 March 2017, there will be a number of events and activities around the Royal Borough for young people and businesses to find out more about apprenticeship opportunities.

What's on for young people

Tuesday 7 March

Apprenticeships in schools careers fair

Register by 5pm Friday 3 March. Email school-apprenticeships@royalgreenwich.gov.uk

  • Place: The Professional Development Centre, 1 Waterdale Road, Abbey Wood SE2 0XT
  • Time: 2pm to 4pm

Wednesday 8 March

Drop-in session

For young people aged 16 to 24 who are interested in finding out more about apprenticeship opportunities. No need to register, just turn up.

  • Place: The Eltham Centre, Archery Road, Eltham SE9 1HA
  • Time: 10am to 2pm

Sparks, Spanners and Skimmers

Apprenticeship open-day at our Birchmere depot in Thamesmead aimed at Year 11 students to take part in a number of taster sessions, including:

  • motor vehicle engineering
  • plant repairs and maintenance
  • electrical installation
  • carpentry
  • plastering
  • plumbing
  • business administration.

Register by 5pm Friday 3 March to attend this event. You must be a resident of the borough.

  • Time: 9.30am to 4.30pm

Friday 10 March

Introduction to Construction

A pop-up event for 16 to 24 year olds interested in a career in construction trades, in conjunction with Knight Dragon and a range of construction and building partners.

Register by 5pm Friday 3 March.

  • Place: Work and Learn, Chandlers Avenue, North Greenwich SE10 0GE
  • Time: 1pm to 3pm

What's on for businesses

Thursday 9 March

The South East London Chamber of Commerce is holding an event at Greenwich Theatre for businesses to find out more about how apprenticeships can benefit their business. With guest speakers from local education authorities, London South East Colleges and the University of Greenwich who will be speaking about apprenticeships and the government’s new apprenticeship levy. with testimonials from students who have been on apprenticeship programmes with local businesses.

Other events across the borough

Our team will be out across schools in the borough all through the week, talking to Year 11 students about apprenticeship opportunities.

The Point is hosting an apprentices lunch for five young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs), to show them more about apprenticeship opportunities and meet other apprentices. The Point is a local service that gives help and advice for young people aged 16 to 19 or up to 25 for young people who have special educational needs and disabilities.

Apprentices will be shadowing Councillors on Tuesday 7 March for the 'Be the Boss' event.

On Thursday 9 March, Berkeley Homes Construction Skills Academy is taking place at the Council's Construction Skills Centre in Kidbrooke Village. This is a construction apprenticeships careers fair for students from Thomas Tallis School.

Apprenticeship Steering Group and Apprentices Awards Ceremony takes place on Friday 10 March. Internal and external partners will come together to discuss and plan further strategic action and initiatives to tackle youth unemployment in the borough. The event will also include an Apprentices Awards Ceremony.
