Cllr Chris Roberts has spoken of his relief at justice for Stephen Lawrence's family.
Following the decision by an Old Bailey jury to convict two men of the murder of teenager Stephen Lawrence in Eltham in 1993, Councillor Chris Roberts, Leader of Greenwich Council, has paid tribute to the search for justice carried out by Stephen's parents.
Cllr Roberts said: "It is a source of great relief that the process of justice for the family of Stephen Lawrence has finally begun.
"The guilty verdicts handed out today are a tribute to Doreen and Neville's endurance in their search for justice for their son. Their determination and dignity has been clear for all to see throughout the last eighteen years.
"The details of Stephen's murder left me, like many others, shocked and horrified. The fact that a young man who had everything to live for could have his life taken away so suddenly and violently is still shocking today.
"Today, however, is just the first step towards ensuring that all of those responsible are brought to justice. I hope the police will continue with their investigations to ensure everyone involved in this despicable act is held to account."
