A major contract has been awarded to ensure continued investment in leisure.

The Council has awarded its leisure management contract to GLL (Greenwich Leisure Limited). The contract, which runs for 15 years from 1 January 2012, will secure significant investment to deliver an outstanding Olympic legacy for Greenwich residents. This will be achieved through investment in new facilities and existing leisure centres.

The new partnership will bring the council savings of £250,000 while delivering a higher quality of leisure service, ensuring the council gets more for less.

The new contract incorporates all the leisure centres, the five adventure play sites, Southmere Boating Centre, Hornfair Park BMX track and Charlton Lido.

The GreenwichCard and Greenwich Higher Saver Card schemes will be retained, offering discount savings to Greenwich residents at businesses throughout the borough.

Councillor Chris Roberts, Leader of Greenwich Council, said: "In awarding the new leisure management contract the Council can achieve significant capital investment to support the Olympic legacy programme by investment in new facilities and in the existing leisure centres. The contract will provide a continuation of leisure management provision which will be delivered, as already shown to a high standard. The council looks forward to working with GLL over the next 15 years in improving the management of the borough’s leisure service even further."
